COMPOSITION:

Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 mg, Potassium Clavulanate 125 mg tablets

DESCRIPTION:

Cefpodoxime is 3rd generation Cephalosporin antibiotic. It is active against most Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms. Cefpodoxime is used to treat the infections caused by bacteria H.influenzae, Streptococcus, Moraxella catarrhalis, S. Pneumonia bacteria, which leads to infection of the middle ear, acute inflammation of the maxillary Sinus, throat irritation, inflammation of the tonsils, bacterial pneumonia, chronic bronchitis, Urinary Tract Infection, Skin Infections.

Potassium Clavulanate – Clavulanate acid is a beta lactam drug that functions as a mechanism-based Beta-Lactamase inhibitor. While not effective by itself as an anti-biotic, when combined with penicillin group antibiotics, it can overcome anti biotic resistance in bacteria that secretes beta lactamase

For the treatment of pyelonephritis during pregnancy, and for the treatment of pyelonephritis caused by Gram positive organisms.

INDICATIONS:

LRTIs, post-surgical infections, chronic bronchitis

DOSES AND ADMINISTRATIONS

1 tablet twice a day or as directed by the physician

ADVERSE EFFECTS

Adverse effects of the medicine include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, severe itching of skin, insomnia, dizziness, emesis, dyspepsia, headache, diarrhea, eosinophilia, hallucinations and sinus tachycardia

PRECAUTIONS

There are no sufficient and well controlled studies when it comes to Cefpodoxime, Clavulanate administration in pregnant women and nursing mothers, therefore it you are pregnant or nursing, discuss with your doctor about your condition before taking this medicine.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Before taking Cefpodoxime Proxetil tell your doctor if you are allergic to it or to penicillin or other cephalosporin antibiotics (i.e., Cephalexin) or if you have any other allergies, during pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risk and benefits with your doctor. This drug passes into breast milk and could have undesirable effects on the nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast feeding,
