COMPOSITION: Each capsule of Itcangus contains 200 mg of itraconazole.

DESCRIPTION: Itraconazole is an antifungal agent that belongs to the class of imidazoles. It works by inhibiting the cell wall synthesis in fungi. Itraconazole inhibits the activity of the enzyme cytochrome P-450-14α-demethylase, which is involved in the conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol. When the synthesis of ergosterol is inhibited, it leads to increased cellular permeability, leakage of the cellular components, and eventually leads to cell death. Other mechanisms by which itraconazole inhibits the fungal growth include inhibition of endogenous respiration, purine uptake inhibition, and impaired phospholipid biosynthesis.
