COMPOSITION:
Each Ceponet 200 tablet contains cefpodoxime 200 mg.
DESCRIPTION:
Ceponet is a brand name for the anti-biotic cefpodoxime. Cefpodoxime is beta lactam antibiotic that belongs to the class of 3rd generation of cephalosporins. This drug is active against several gram positive and gram-negative bacteria. This drug is resistant to the activity of cephalosporinases, penicillinases and a few beta lactamases.
Cefpodoxime works via inhibiting cell wall synthesis in bacteria. This drug binds to the Penicillin Binding Protein (BPB) and inhibits the transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in bacteria. This transpeptidation stem is crucial for the cross linking in the bacterial cell wall and without this cross linking the bacterial cells cannot hold their content within them. This leakage will eventually lead to the death of the bacterial cell.

- Bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
- Community acquired pneumonia
- Gonorrhea and associated infections
- Maxillary sinusitis
- Pharyngitis / tonsillitis
- Extreme / structures infection
- Urinary tract infection
- Respiratory tract infections
- Acute Otitis Media
DOSES AND ADMINISTRATION:
1 tab daily or as directed by the physician.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Ceponet 200 tab is contraindicated in patients with hyper sensitivity towards cefpodoxime , clostridium difficile infection and hepatic impairment.
ADVERSE EFFECTS:
Adverse effects of this medicine include gastro intestinal disturbances, mild skin rashes, vomiting, nausea and diarrhea.
PRECAUTIONS:
There are no sufficient and well controlled studies when it comes to cefdaloxime with regards to administration in pregnant women and nursing mothers. Therefore, if you are pregnant or nursing, discuss with your doctor about the condition before taking this medicine.

Patients who are sensitive to cephalosporin should avoid or consume under medical supervision. Precaution should be taken with regards to administration in pregnant women and nursing mothers.
